Mental Images

The text for this message on spiritual warfare is from 2 Cor. 10:5: “Casting down vain imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ.” “Vain imaginations,” Pastor Bates explains, are “mental images” used by the Enemy in his endless spiritual warfare against people of faith. These images, which invade our minds, unbidden, are a key part of Satan’s military strategy against every child of God, his ceaseless campaign of fear, hatred, and doubt designed to separate us from God. But this, as Tommy Bates declares, is “a war we can win.” We are commanded to cast aside doubts and fears. And we are empowered by God to overcome the wiles of the devil. God has given us a spirit of faith to cast out fear. We can put “on the whole armor of God” to defend against the mental images that come against us again and again. We have mighty weapons for overcoming the fiercest attacks of the enemy–the spiritual weapons of peace, love, joy, prayer, faith and the full protection of God. Perfect love “will cast out fear.” God is for us. So “who can be against us?”
