The Prince of Peace

The Prince of Peace, recorded live at Community Family Church in Independence, Kentucky, opens with Pastor Tommy Bates singing two moving songs—“In a Land Where There’s Life Beyond Death,” and “Just Another Child Gone Home”—and proceeds to an electrifying message on peace in the midst of trouble.

Isaiah 9:6 is the main text: “For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counselor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.” Pastor Bates paints a riveting word picture of the greatest story ever told. Before the Incarnation, access to God was limited to an intermediary high priest, and sinful people lived in a world of laws, commandments and ordinances that could not be kept. But Jesus changed it all: in his flesh, He abolished sin, serving as a substitutionary sacrificial offering so that we can, by faith, have peace with God. Through the work of Christ, we can not only have peace with God: we can enjoy the peace of God. And through the Holy Spirit, we can have direct access to God at all times. “Jesus,” Pastor Bates declares “IS our peace.” He makes the difference between sin and death—our certain destiny without Him—and abundant and eternal life, here and hereafter. Thanks to the work of the cross, we can have peace in the midst of our storms, a peace that passes all understanding.
